Hey everyone,
Did you know that there is a room on Clayton Campus just for women? The reasons for having this space are numerous, and the reason why this space is well-loved are more extensive still!
The Women’s Room is located on the first floor of the Campus Centre (Building 10).
Here is a little list of reasons, some of which I overheard, some I've been told, and someare my own, for why the women who use this autonomous safe space just love it.

Here's how to ge to the Women's Room: if you take the stairs located between the Monash Shop and Coffee HQ, you will see the MSA front desk (there is a flatscreen on the wall behind, it plays pictures of MSA events all day!). Turn left and you will see a corridor. Go down that corridor! To your left you will see the Activist space (which is cool), then the Women’s Office (this is where your friendly Women’s Officers live, feel free to drop by and talk with us at any time!) and then – huzzah! – there is a very bright yellow door. Welcome to the Women’s Room.[/size]
For those women who haven't dropped by the Women's Room yet... I recommend you drop in, even if it's just once, so that you know for yourself that there is a safe space for you on campus, should you ever feel you need it.
[glow=red]Better still, get involved with some of the great Women's Dept activities, such as Thursdays in Black, FREE self defence workshops, FREE belly dancing lessons, International Women's Day, Women's Music Apreciation Group, Women's Reading and Discussion Groups, Equal Pay Day, International No Diet Day (there shall be cupcakes!!), and much, much more![/glow] Best way to find out about all these events is to ask one of your friendly Women's Officers to add you to the eBulletin to do this you can email me at Emilykate.Cowan@adm.monash.edu.au and you'll receive a weekly notice with all the week's events listed!
I'd be really interested to hear from everyone who frequents our Women's safe space what they love about it and why they keep coming back (my reason would be... the excellent company and discussion!).

• There is a computer and internet access for me to use. This means I can look up women's help sites, such as SECASA, that I overwise wouldn't feel comfortable looking up at home, or in Matheson.
• I have a women-only space where I can breastfeed if I want to.
• The Safer Sex Drawer has FREE condoms and dams, as well as information on pregnancy prevention and STIs. I don't always feel comfortable buying condoms, but I know that I can grab afew anonymously from Women's, which is good to know, because it's i,portant to me - and should be to everyone - that sex is safer sex.
• There is a microwave and a fridge/freezer, a kettle, tea and coffee… which is convenient!
• I love how comfy the couches are!
• There are beds in the Women’s Room Annex so I can get some rest.
• There's a little sound system, so I can listen to Alanis Morisette, Eva Cassidy, Emilie Autumn, Jacqueline du Pre, the radio…
• I can flick through, read or even borrow (on a trust system) a wide range of both fiction and non-fiction books, including topics such as women’s issues and poetry.
• There is a Logbook on the coffee table, where I can anonymously or openly discuss feminist theory, draw/write poetry/fiction/questions/open letters to woman on campus... it's pretty cool to crash on the couches, open the Logbook, and see what's been written or discussed since last time, and if there are any replies to my jottings. It's amazing that women I don't even know often write these really supportive comments in there.
• On the table behind the door, I can find a whole host of information on women’s issues, including information and contacts for WIRE Women’s Information, SECASA (South Eastern Centre Against Sexual Assault), Eating Disorders Foundation of Victoria, the Monash University Equity and Diversity Centre, the Health Wellbeing and Development HUB.
• There are free stickers for me to decorate/inform my world with.
• There is a fantastic, stocked Art Cupboard so I can express myself colourfully and creatively, maybe on the art wall, Logbook... or wherever.
