Why do we still need feminism? Because lots of people don't take violence against women seriously. And that attitude is even more problematic when it comes to sex workers. The way society acts, it's as if they aren't human. Or at least, that explains why Facebook allowed a group to call itself '"Killing Your Hooker So You Don’t Have to Pay For Her', left it up long enough for over 22,000 fans to accumulate, and only after a myriad of complaints removed it without an apology. Given that violence against sex workers is shockingly widespread, even in developed countries, and yes, even MELBOURNE, (anyone watched The Jammed?), the fact that a bunch of people decided to approve of the idea, even if just as a joke, is indicative of a much, much wider issue in society. The idea that society condones violence against women, especially if they're only sex workers. Huh. Our own society, replete with 'family values' and moral upstandings, still condones. turns a blind eye, or even gets off on someone sending us to hospital or killing us? Guess we still need Feminism.
