LAST CHANCE to sign the MSA Women’s Department petition against GST on women's sanitary products!
(PLUS the last Women’s Department event for semester one to feature fairy bread!)
(PLUS other free stuff!)
Bleeding is NOT A ‘Luxury’ Day - Stall on Menzies Lawn
With the end of financial year marking the ten year anniversary of this tax on women's menstrual cycles, the MSA women's department is having a stall on the Menzies Lawn. Come along, review the debate that surrounded the decision to tax pads and tampons as 'luxury' items (whilst they were smart enough to figure out that incontinence pads and condoms should be GST free, somehow this logic didn't cover menstrual pads and tampons - note also, even some dairy products remaied GST free), sign the petition, grab yourself some
#free fairy bread,
#free pads and tampons and perhaps a
#symbolic red scarf to tie around your waist!
Spread the word - bleeding is NOT a luxury!!
Tuesday, 25th of May, 11am-12pm on the Menzies Lawn.
Open event.
Bleeding is NOT A ‘Luxury’ Day - Casual Discussion
Open discussion on our bodies, menstrauation and society. A casual setting where we'll discuss the article ‘If men could menstruate’ by Gloria Steinem (copies will be made availale on the day, you can also go to msawomensdepartment.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=campaign&action=display&thread=118 and find it here on our online forum), advertising and sanitary products, alternatives to disposable pads and tampons, Vanessa Tieg's "Menstrala" paintings - anything!! Considering this topic is still such a taboo, we look forward to providing for frank (and perhaps even funny) conversation!
Tuesday, 25th May, 1pm-3pm, Menzies H3 Lecture Theatre.
We hope to see you there!
