ENVIRONMENT AND SOCIAL JUSTICE WEEK SEWING SKILLSHARE!
Date: Thursday, April 1, 2010
Time: 11:00am - 12:00pm
Location: The Activist Space (to the right of the MSA front desk), First Floor of the Campus Centre (Bldg10), Clayton Campus
Remember how wonderful Week 2 (International Women’s Day/Women’s Week) was?
Well, Week 5 is the Environment and Social Justice Week, run by the MSA Environment and Social Justice Dept (who else?)!
As a part of this week the MSA Women’s Dept are putting on an equal empowerment Sewing Skillshare, from 11am-12pm in the Activist Space (next to the Women’s Office!).
The threefold purpose of this event is: 1) to break down gender stereotypes by empowering both men and women with the know-how to sew on buttons and mend hems 2) to save students money by teaching each other how to make our clothes last longer and of course 3) saving the environment by reducing the demand for new clothes and new materials!
So whether you’re a veteran couturier or can’t tell one end of the needle from the other, come along for a practical, fun-filled event!
FREE Materials will be provided; however, feel free to bring along any clothes you have that could do with some TLC, plus any materials (buttons, thread) / textile equipment (needles, scissors)!
To see the full list of Week 5 events, go to www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=374983806599 or contact one of your MSA Enviro Officers Jessica.Mackay@adm.monash.edu.au or Benjamin.Finn@adm.monash.edu.au for more info!
