Why Feminism? Well, since the UN published their statistics estimating that up to 70% of women across the world will experience physical, sexual, or emotional abuse in our lives, it has been recognised that violence against women is one of the most widespread and global human rights abuses today. Feminism established that no, it was not okay to rape someone, not because they were somebody else's wife or daughter and therefore somebody else's property, but because it was an assault on another person's intrinsic spirit, soul, and body. And we need Feminism now to combat the attitudes of those who think it is okay to beat their wives, that it is okay to use rape as a weapon of war, and that it is okay to [url-http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/feb/04/girl-buried-alive-turkey]bury[/url], burn, and stone women alive.
