1 – Orientation Week
Emily-Kate talks about Orientation Week; time, details, activities, that have been planned. These include tours of the Women’s Room, a performance of the Vagina Monologues, and a Thursdays in Black.
Emily-Kate notes that for the next WAC, we should fill in a roster to help with all these activities
Erica talks about the showbags we have; 300 MSA bags to give out at the Women’s stall.
o Friyana notes that we can distinguish them by putting ribbons on them.
EK was caught saying Lytonisms.
WAC discusses different options for those who cannot click to signify agreement. EK talks about what to include in the showbags; firstly, the leftover Dissents.
o Friyana notes that we can put the leftover Dissents by the Women’s stall to hand out to interested parties.
o EK talks about putting condoms and tampons into the bags.
o Ada discusses the possibility of dams, as well as stapling something onto the front of the bags to differentiate them.
o EK talks about perhaps using acrylic paint over them.
EK also notes we will put in information about the Women’s Department, business cards, maps that we will talk to Marketing about, and a pamphlet on what to do if a friend/relative comes to you saying they have been Sexually Assaulted.
o Ada notes that there are some good brochures on CASA already
o EK notes she wants to collate the good stuff together
o Friyana notes that we should put lollies in there
o Jenai notes that lollies are important.
EK asks if there is anything else we want to talk about during O-Week.
o Ada enquires as to the roster
o EK replies that she will email around information.
Elise enters at 1:05pm.
Elise, an observer, notes she would like to volunteer for O-Week.
General noises of agreement and handwaving.
2 – Consensus Agreement
EK mentions she will now move onto consensus agreement. She notes current standing orders are rather limiting and she wants further suggestions besides what she alreay has collated before looking at amending them at next WAC. She asks for comments.
o Ada mentions that consensus based decision making is amazing and should be continued.
o EK notes that we used a strange hybrid of it last year, so to have it made officially would be good.
3 – WAC Special Projects
EK moves onto special projects for WAC members and asks other people for their input.
(i) Friyana
Friyana notes that she wants to take care of Equal Pay Day, a publicity subcomittee, and International No Diet Day. - EK notes that in terms of publicity, she will send an email around of all the ways and avenues to publicise the Women’s Department that have been used in the past.
(ii) Ada
Ada notes she would also like to help with publicity, that she doesn’t know all the days things are happening, and would also like something relating to the Queer Department like an hour in the Women’s Room because she has had experience in the area. She would also like to work on accessibility.
EK notes that discussion about the Queer department is a great idea since she has had bad experiences in the Women’s Room in terms of overhearing homophobic conversations, and that this definitely counts as a personal project. She also notes she can send out an email about equal opportunities.
o Ada says she will talk to Diana Vivian about a baby-changing room.
o Friyana notes that there could be places in the daycare centre.
o Ada notes that the daycare centre is very far away and it would be good to have one in the Campus Centre.
o EK asks whether Ada wants an hour per week or fortnight.
o Ada says that’s a good idea, and says it can be really informal, like a discussion group.
o EK says that Ada should find an hour, then we can begin advertising it.
EK is happy we have quorom and she has now woken up.
4 – Women’s Room
EK moves on to items for the Women’s room. She talks about having already bought eucalyptus oil to clean up the place and especially the fridge.
o Erica makes general noises of despair and horror about what she had to go through when cleaning the fridge.
EK notes the first thing we need to pass money for are paint, supplies for annexe, and kitchenette up to $80. She asks whether people are comfortable about that.
o Ada notes that is reasonable
o EK notes all we really need is a tin of paint.
o Ada asks how much our budget is.
o EK notes she will send around an email to tell everyone what our budget is.
o EK apologises for the standing orders and says we need to move, second, and vote on this.
5 - EK moves that this WAC authorises up to $80 to be spent on paint and supplies from the amenities line item for the annexe and kitchenette.
o Ada seconds.

6 - EK moves that this WAC authorises the expenditure of $7.95 for eucalyptus oil for the removal of stickers and general hygiene purposes from the amenities line item.

o Friyana comments that we voted about this on last year’s budget.
o EK points out we have to do it again since we no longer have access to last year’s budget.
o Friyana Seconds
Vote - Unanimous

Friyana notes that we will be openly affiliated with them which is good for publicity
o Erica notes that they are also doing a performance for us during O-Week.
12 – Women’s Room Maintenance cont.
EK notes we need something to hand tea towels from
o Ada notes that there are several things already here, suggesting the fridge handle.
o Jenai notes you could hang it over the tap.
13 – O-Week cont.
Friyana asks whether we should move money for O-Week
o Erica notes that we should do so, since printing will need to be organised soon.
Erica asks how many posters we will need
o Ada notes A3 ones are good.
o EK explains why we want posters for publicity - Ada suggests 5 for the stall, 5 for the room, 20 for around Campus Centre, and around 50 in total around the Campus.
EK suggests 60 to give us movement room and calculates it’ll be around $12.
o Ada suggests we pass up to $20 for posters.
Erica asks out how much lollies will be.
o Friyana notes they need to wrapped lollies.
o EK suggests $100 for lollies
o Friyana notes that $100 for lollies is a fair whack, pun not intended.
o EK summarises up to $50 for lollies and up to $50 for printing.
14 – Thursdays in Black
Ada asks whether we should pass money for Thursdays in Black.
o Friyana asks how much this will cost.
o EK notes that Wholefoods may not have charged us, so we don’t really know.
o Ada notes there was a big thing with the Wholefoods budget anyway, so starting afresh is good.
15 – O-Week cont.
Friyana goes back to the showbags and wants to know whether we should pass money for ribbons.
o EK notes we need more ribbon, although we have already figured out we have enough ribbon for 6 centimetres per bag.
16 - EK moves that we authorise expenditure of up to $10 for the purchase of ribbons from the Orientation line item.
o Friyana seconds
Vote - Unanimous
Passed.
EK explains briefly the different types of voting.
o Ada adds on further information.
o EK notes she will email around more information on consensus voting.
o Erica approves of the current situation with WAC, given everyone is talking.
o Friyana notes that in the minutes, you can see the chain of succession.
EK asks for more questions. Then goes to timeline and planning for 2010. She hands the chair to Erica.
17 – Year’s Planning
Erica explains the first few dates.
EK explains International Women’s Day and the Women’s week, noting she wants bellydancing and self-defence workshops to be available.
o Friyana is excited about this!
EK also notes that she would like to get a speaker in, and asks for suggestions.
o Erica asks where it will be held
o EK suggests the cinema, so that men can be involved, and it’s big and comfortable.
o Ada asks what kind of topic would be good.
o Erica suggests Reclaiming Feminism
o Friyana asks if this is the theme for they year
o EK notes that this is a good theme for the year. Direct quote: “Don’t recoil in fear, let’s have a sensible conversation.”
o Jenai notes that ‘Feminism is the Radical Notion that women are people’ is a great quote.
Ada notes that we should put this in the women’s room because people get scared.
o Erica notes we will look for a speaker with these ideas.
Erica explains Bleeding is not a Luxury Day
o Ada suggests whether we should run a workshop about alternative forms of hygiene.
o EK would also like to run an awareness campaign about alternatives, like menstrual cups.
o Friyana also notes that we should alternate pads and tampons.
o EK notes that she is chasing up Kotex about getting pads. She says if we can’t get any, she might ask central MSA money if we can have funds for pads.
EK suggests putting chocolate as a surprise in the tampon drawer.
o Ada and Friyana note that this is hilarious.
EK notes she would like to book the Women’s circus.
Erica and EK explain International Whore’s Day, and note that we want a speaker for that. We considered somebody from Rhed, Fiona Patten from the Australian Sex Party.
o EK notes that since she has her official email now, she can email like a crazy woman.
o Ada notes a speaker about Safe Sex would be great as well.
Next is Equal Pay Day. EK notes last year we handed out leaflets and ribbon roses that worked really well.
Then White Ribbon Day - we explain that we moved it to the 23rd of September to put it in with Thursdays in Black.
Erica passes the chair back to EK.
EK notes that we can have two self-defence instructors; one in first and one in second semester. She notes she was thinking of having 3 workshops in first semester and one or two in second semester as that was less busy.
Friyana suggests we can focus on bellydancing and circus in one semester and self-defence in another semester.
o EK notes this, but worries about what will happen if people don’t like bellydancing or don’t like self-defence.
o Friyana notes that doing it during the same day as celebrated would get busy and do something later that week instead.
o EK notes that self-defence would be a great thing to run during Thursdays in Black.
EK notes she will email around this document and the minutes so everyone knows what’s going on. She then asks if anyone has anything else to say.
o Erica mentions we should talk about Green Week. EK and Ada subsequently bury their faces in their hands.
o EK suggests going to talk to Indigenous, MUISS, and Queer, but suggests going first to Activities.
EK notes that we will talk about Green week for next WAC. EK asks if we want to do anything else.
o Friyana asks if we want to do anything for maternity leave.
o EK notes that we should look into this and what options are open and scholarships that are available. EK also notes that we should look at paternity leave.
o Ada comments that should be ‘parental leave’. - Everyone is pro.
EK notes she will be talking to a lot of people in terms of Equal Opportunity and the Vice-Chancellor’s Taskforce for the Advancement of Women.
Erica notes she will bring it up during Student Experience Network.
18 – Dissent
EK moves onto next item: Dissent. EK notes that we have a LOT of leftover Dissents.
o Friyana asks how many.
o EK notes we have a lot, and we should look at selling them through Sticky Institute, which should proliferate women’s voices as well as use it as fundraising.
o With Dissent 2009, we’re not sure if it’s ethical exactly to spread it out, we don’t know if that means they’ll be happy for us to use it to get money, so we’ll attempt to contact as many people as we can.
o Friyana asks whether there will be copyright issues.
o EK says the articles could just be donated in that case.
EK notes that we should print only half as much. EK asks if there is anything else anyone wants to raise.
o Exclamations of ‘no’.
EK then asks when everyone wants the next WAC. Discussions are made and the date of 11am, 8th of February, Monday is settled upon.
EK asks if there is anything else people want to talk about. There is nothing else.
Meeting closed at 2:29pm.
